When we get upset at terrorism, injustice or any other form of negativity, how does that help a person, or a situation? When you look at the news and think: “That’s not fair! That’s terrible! – why doesn’t someone do something to stop that? How can God allow such a thing?” What does that do for a situation? By having those thoughts you are just adding negative feelings to an already very negative situation. Why do you think you’re there, looking at it? Why are you perhaps caught in the middle of some explosive situation? So you can pour all the love and blessings you are capable of in that moment, not judgment and hate. The Divine cannot act in a vacuum, it must, and can only act through someone or something.

When a child cries, and the mother is screaming, or scolding, does the child cry any less?

Remember that under every violent act, under all anger and hate there is fear and grief; fear of losing something, grief about losing something; fear of being attacked, fear of being diminished in some way, fear of rejection. Grief that your needs were not met, that you are unloved, unsupported, unsafe. At the root of all violence is the core false belief that you are separate from the Source of Life, where lies all abundance, safety, security and love, so that you have to fend for yourself.

When we see it from that perspective, understand the deeper reasons, it becomes easier to have compassion and stop the judgment. It doesn’t mean we condone what’s happening; if we can, of course we do what’s necessary to stop it. But usually, we’re not there; so all we can do is energetically shine the light of who we really are on those who have forgotten who they really are.

And so, my practice when I look at anything that is less than joyful and happy, I send blessings, compassion and love to everyone concerned, without exception, consciously and unremittingly. Blessing them with peace, harmony, love and happiness, so that over time, there will be nothing left in the world except that love and harmony expressing through all beings. And I will keep doing that until I see nothing but happiness and fulfilled everywhere I look.
